GenAI Dental Design Platform

Overview

Steinfeld.co was an early-stage dental AI startup targeting the $22B dental prosthetics manufacturing market. I joined as the first PM and led AI product development and change management — from initial GTM through a $5M Series A raise — bringing a generative AI dental design tool to live clinical production.

The Problem

Traditional dental prosthetics design required a skilled technician to spend 40–50 minutes per patient case — a bottleneck that limited throughput, increased costs, and introduced inconsistency across clinics. The dental lab industry was highly fragmented and deeply reliant on manual craft.

The product vision: use generative AI (GAN-based) to automate the initial prosthetics design step — compressing the technician's work from 50 minutes to under 5 while improving consistency and throughput.

What I Built

• Led seed-stage GTM strategy — identified target segment, ran customer discovery (100+ interviews), defined ICP, and closed the first 5 B2B clinic clients.
• Owned the full product lifecycle as first PM: roadmap, PRDs, sprint planning, cross-functional execution across 6 developers, 2 ML researchers, 1 designer, and 3 clinical specialists.
• Launched 10+ product features including: AI design editor, manufacturing kanban board, patient case dashboard, and clinical review flow.
• Enhanced the GenAI pipeline (Pix2Pix, U-Net, UV Map) through continuous evaluation — increasing AI-generated treatment selection rate by 70%.
• Designed and executed AI change management for clinical staff: onboarding, training, workflow redesign, and ongoing quality monitoring.
• Built a SQL analytics dashboard to track KPIs and A/B test results — saving 80+ hours per week of manual reporting.
• Provided on-site support at dental clinics processing 500+ patients monthly.
• Supported the $5M Series A raise: prepared materials, managed investor due diligence, and contributed to the clinical validation data story.

The Change Management Challenge

Deploying generative AI into a live clinical setting with practicing dentists and dental technicians is not a pure software problem — it is a human change problem. The staff had years of manual technique baked into muscle memory. The AI output was good but not perfect, and the clinicians needed to trust it enough to use it as a starting point rather than a replacement.

My approach: I treated adoption as a product metric, not an ops task. I tracked AI selection rates at the patient level, built feedback mechanisms into the product for clinicians to flag incorrect AI outputs, and used that signal to prioritize model improvements. Adoption and model quality improved together.

• 90% reduction in prosthetics design time — from 50 minutes to 5 minutes per patient.
• 30% of patients processed with AI involvement per month.
• 70% increase in AI-generated treatment selection rate (adoption metric).
• 500+ patients/month treated at clinics using the platform.
